  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Bristol Now
Entry Title: Public Safety: Drug Activity, Flood, Killer Clown
Entry Credit: Robert Sorrell, Mike Still, Marina Waters, Rob Walters, Chelsea Gillenwater, Susan Cameron
Judge Comment: The challenge to a newspaper covering both sides of a state line is successfully navigated here by an outstanding report on annual crime statistics for Bristol VA and TN. To have a detailed, readabled report on flood response in the same issue is ove the top!. Readers are more than well served! The institutional memory required to keep up with the clown murder is a testament that few publications could match. Great work!
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Fauquier Times
Entry Title: EMS interventions, fatal overdose and murder conviction
    Entry Credit: Coy Ferrell
Judge Comment: The EMS training was valuable reading, and the reports on trial and sentencing of a man convicted of his friends inadvertent death were heart-wrenching. The work is a statement to community service.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: The Breeze
Entry Title: Public Safety at Athletics Events
Entry Credit: Madison Hricik, Savannah Reger
Judge Comment: In 50 years, never have seen this approach to public safety. Now I know that a ballgame is way more than a ballgame, and I don't want ESPN GameDay coming to a stadium near me!. Very great and comprehensive work.
  • Place Name: Alternate Winner
    Contestant Name: Fauquier Times
Entry Title: School safety, ex-student with gun and Haiti Street police presence
    Entry Credit: Colleen LaMay
Judge Comment: Everything you could ever want to know about how these schools are protected. Is it the most important issue in a community? Hard to say no. Thanks!
  • Competition Comment: Devoted journalism!
