Best Lede ( Non-Daily Group 3,Non-Daily Group 4)Back
Place Name: First Place Contestant Name: Prince William Times Entry Title: Stuck, stuck goose; a mayor hangs from the moon; new airport stuck on the ground Entry Credit: Cher Muzyk Judge Comment: These ledes are proof that good ones need not be wordy. I am a fan of short ledes that give just enough of a hint of what's to come without saying more. These do just that.
Place Name: Second Place Contestant Name: Fauquier Times Entry Title: Ledes by Sarah Dolgin Entry Credit: Sarah Dolgin Judge Comment: All of this entry's ledes are good , but the "A sea of pointed military caps adorned with pins tilted toward the sky..." is a great one. These ledes made me want to read on. Well done.
Place Name: Third Place Contestant Name: InsideNoVa/Prince William Entry Title: Body of Work Entry Credit: Sébastien Kraft Judge Comment: Close call for third place, but the "Not enough Bobs in the world" and the museum lead earned this entry third place. They made me wonder, "What next," which is what you want.
Competition Comment: Same rules snafu for this contest as with one of the other categories. One set of rules for W20 said entry must include entire story, bur rules for non-daily on PDF of all rules say entry should contain lede only and no story.
I judged them all...
