2022 VPA News and Advertising Contest

Professional Services (excluding medical/healthcare) ( Non-Daily Group 3) Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: The Crozet Gazette
    Entry Title: Haynes Law Group
    Entry Credit: Allie Pesch
Judge Comment: I like the diversity illustrated in this advertisement's photo and overall feel — even down to the acknowledgement that interaction with Spanish-speaking clients/potential clients is just as important to this business as interaction with English-speaking customers. The ad is clean, colorful and provides lots of information in a relatively small amount of space.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Fauquier Times
    Entry Title: Linda Suter
Entry Credit: Laurene Craig, Nancy Keyser
Judge Comment: I appreciate the "local" feel of this advertisement and what I presume are local photos that are highlighted. Although the pictures sort of convey what services are provided by this business (obviously weddings seem to be among the business' bread and butter?), it would be nice to have more information on what this company has successfully been involved in and how far its services extend. Maybe an engaging employees' photo could be part of the ad's presentation.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Fauquier Times
Entry Title: Fauquier County Democratic Committee
Entry Credit: Laurene Craig, Anthony Haugan
Judge Comment: This ad certainly has a lot of information in it, but no photo of the candidate herself? I would have liked to see her interacting with those who have been impacted by the information that the ad is sharing and to not have her image anywhere in this obviously well thought out ad seems to be a missed opportunity.
  • Place Name: Alternate Winner
    Contestant Name: Fauquier Times
    Entry Title: The Open Book
Entry Credit: Vincent Sales, Laurene Craig, Nancy Keyser
Judge Comment: This ad conveys a broad message well, but perhaps more specifics on what this business offers would be helpful to the person who comes across it.
  • Competition Comment: Good efforts by everyone in this competition. As I noted in several of the entries, I would have liked to see more of the business owners or candidates that are the subject of the advertisements pictured and perhaps interacting with each other (in the case of an employees' photo) or engaging with their constituents/customer(s) in the case of the political ads and the book store ad. I am sure ALL of these ads were well-received by those paying for them and those who read over them.
