Place Name: First Place Contestant Name: The Smithfield Times Entry Title: Riverside Entry Credit: Dana Snow Judge Comment: I think this ad pops — not only due to the vibrant colors chosen, as well as the overall design and use of space — but the photo ads personality and the QR code is a very nice touch. If company vans are used, I might have placed the people in front of one of those vs. this garage. But a nice effort overall!
Place Name: Second Place Contestant Name: The Star-Tribune Entry Title: Alisa Davis for Mayor Entry Credit: Rachel Nanney, Amanda Meadows Judge Comment: Nice clean and colorful ad. I like the call-to-action, but I believe providing contact information for the candidate would have made this advertisement even more effective.
Place Name: Third Place Contestant Name: The Smithfield Times Entry Title: Tree removal Entry Credit: Dana Snow Judge Comment: This ad stands out and provides lots of valuable information to potential customers. The design is clean and effective.
Place Name: Alternate Winner Contestant Name: The Tidewater News Entry Title: Charlie Ashburn Vote Entry Credit: Loretta Lomax Judge Comment: An effective ad, but the stars overlaid on top of the candidate's face is distracting and the reader's eye keeps being drawn to that part of the advertisement. Colorful and informative, however. And I would imagine the candidate was happy with the creative effort.
Competition Comment: Many of these ads are quite effective and obviously created by talented people. I am sure the advertisers themselves were pleased with the professional results.
