  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Distinction Magazine
Entry Title: Distinction magazine: Food Issue
Entry Credit: Clay Barbour, EJ Toudt, Victoria Bourne, Wes Watson, Erica Smith, Allyson Garner
Judge Comment: Stellar photography and presentation made this the 1st place winner in a Design & Presentation competition. Real creativity in the environmental portraits and the food photography literally makes you drool. I have no doubt this “is extremely popular with our readers”.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Washington Business Journal
Entry Title: M06-Special Section, Women Who Mean Business-Fry
Entry Credit: Jamey Fry, Joanne Lawton
Judge Comment: Washington Business Journal: Women Who Mean Business A special section about women most readers would want to meet. Thorough profiles without being overdone and lots of entry points, including Q&As kept the length they should be in a section like this. Solid portrait photography and a clean design that makes the women the focus.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Richmond Magazine
    Entry Title: February 2019
Entry Credit: Justin Vaughan, Lauren Baldwin, Heather Palmateer, Rachel Lee, Ross Allen
Judge Comment: The first 20 pages of this publication are full-page ads before you hit the first editorial content … and it’s an index page. This is slick. The design of the editorial pages shows real creativity with some solid photography, stories and listings. But it takes way too long to get to it. More attention to the advertising/editorial pacing would better serve your readers (and advertisers).
