Judge Comment: Compelling stories told in memorable narratives. Historic photos as well as current environmental portraits make this section a true keepsake. It offered an informative look at those who served overseas as well as on the homefront, and the "D-Day Overview" provided a quick history lesson to those who might need it. Mazagine quality layout.

Judge Comment: I am confident that I have never seen this much coverage given to the retirement of an assistant football coach, even at a quality program like Virginia Tech. Too call it comprehensive is an understatement. But the content explains "why" this assistant coach and is chock full of wonderful photos, tributes, lists of his most memorable players and a doubletruck devoted to the "All-Bud Team". Add clean, attractive packaging and this is a winner.

    Contestant Name: Richmond Times-Dispatch
    Entry Title: Legendary Athletes
    Entry Credit: Staff
Judge Comment: The sheer undertaking of this project -- identifying the best ever athletes and those worthy of honorable mention at 46 local high schools -- is impressive. The diversity of sports as well as athletes selected shows the care taken and the photos were interesting. Not crazy about the fussy headline treatment but this was undoubtedly a keepsake in many homes in the Richmond region.
